IMDS Overview
- In Europe scrap vehicles (Otherwise Known as End of Life Vehicles) generate an estimated 8 to 9 million tons of Waste annually.
- If recycled correctly, the majority of raw materials (Over 95%) can be recovered and put back to use.
- Lawmakers in Europe has spotted this potential and introduced compliance requirements (So called European ELV Directive) in the court of automotive industry to make it more accountable.
- ELV directive also restricts the use of heavy metals i.e. Lead, Mercury, Hexavalent chromium, & Cadmium to minimize their toxic impact on environment & human during recycling, dismantling procedures.
- Any Automotive company wish to implement these Legal requirements, one has to know precisely what the vehicle is made up of.
International Material Data System (IMDS)
- IMDS is an internet-based database created by the automobile industry to globally collect and report material composition data for every component in a finished vehicle.
- IMDS enables vehicle manufacturers (OEM) to meet obligations placed on automobile manufacturers, and thus on their suppliers, by national and international standards, laws and regulations
- IMDS enables vehicle manufacturers (OEM) to meet their own substance restrictions management standards.
- Sponsored by a growing consortium of VM from Europe, Asia, and the Americas, IMDS was conceived and is maintained by the information technology firm HP.
SATVEN IMDS Service
- SATVEN has started supporting Customer Automotive on IMDS related services started in March 2004 for EPS (CD) programs.
- Later, SATVEN expanded the IMDS services to other product portfolio. Mechanical steering gears, Power gears, EPHS, EPS Belt drive, Airbags, Inflators, Electronic control units (ECU) etc.
- Customer locations supported are Poland, Slovokia, UK, Italy, Germany, China, Spain
