    Algorithm Development and Verification Engineer – Restraint Systems: Algorithm Development and Applications Group (ADAG)

    Description

    • The Algorithm Engineer will work within a global team comprised of controls, software, and tools specialists to produce component-level algorithm releases to core and cross-functional project teams, supporting deliverables to customers (vehicle manufacturers)
    • This position will support the development, implementation, verification and release of algorithm components for live application and next-gen core projects as a design expert

    Responsibilities:

    • Design and development of new restraint system algorithms, leveraging the latest sensing technologies -- including those supporting autonomous driving
    • Analyze signals from various sensors to develop concepts useful for event discrimination
    • Analyze new algorithm performance requirements to determine functional gaps against existing designs. Develop algorithm solutions to close the gaps accordingly
    • Present, discuss and negotiate with customers the sensing performance of the algorithms and calibrations
    • Collaborate with team members and customer technical experts to advance the state of the art of crash sensing and system response. Provide input to the development roadmap. Present algorithm concepts and learnings to members of the technical community. Innovate
    • Support algorithm and calibration peer reviews
    • Utilize Matlab, Simulink, StateFlow, Control Toolbox, Optimization Toolbox, and Signal Processing Toolbox development process to execute design updates
    • Utilize DOORs and PTC Integrity to develop / maintain requirements, manage workflow and archive the algorithm
    • Design and execute test plans to verify algorithm designs against requirements. Perform Software-in-the-Loop, Hardware-in-the-Loop verification and validation using Mathworks/dSpace - based tool chain. Analyze results to confirm proper algorithm function

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 3 - 7 years of experience Restraints, Powertrain, Brake Control, ADAS or other embedded automotive controller algorithm / calibration development
    • Experience or university coursework in Systems, Dynamics, and Controls
    • Understanding of embedded-controller digital signal processing, sampling, filtering techniques
    • Knowledge of passive and active safety sensing technologies, and methodologies for managing signal uncertainties and errors
    • Working experience with Matlab/Simulink, Targetlink Auto-code generation, embedded C/C++ and model-based development processes
    • Experience with PTC Integrity, DOORs or equivalent tools

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred
    • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
    • Must be able to travel to customer locations overseas (<4 weeks per year)
